Arlie Salts, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 28, 1938, in New York, raised in North Carolina, and later settled in Jacksonville, Florida, where he raised his family on the Northside.
He was the beloved son of Onald and Frank Salts, Sr. A master carpenter, Arlie was a proud member of Union 726 for over 50 years, retiring at age 65. His craftsmanship left a lasting mark on the community—including the iconic towers along Heckscher Drive, which he helped build.
Arlie had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, gardening (he could grow just about anything), and welding. His hands were always busy, and his heart was always generous.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Onald and Frank Salts, Sr.; his cherished daughter, Barbara Yarbrough; three brothers—Charlie Salts, Kate Yeltons, and Bill Yeltons; two sisters—Anna Haywood and Marie Yeltons; and his grandson, Logan Nelson.
He is survived by his brother, Junior Salts; his five children—Sherry Nelson (Eric), Steven Salts, Arlie Salts, Tammy Edenfield (Scott), and Anthony Salts (Elaine); as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will carry his memory forward.
A celebration of Arlie’s life will be held at The Evergreen Cemetery Chapel, 4535 Main Street, Jacksonville, FL, on Tuesday, August 19th. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service starting at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Evergreen Funeral Home.
