Barbara Norman Hall

Barbara Norman Hall

Barbara Norman Hall was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on October 22, 2025, at her childhood home with her husband holding her hand. Barbara was born September 2, 1941, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida to Carson and Alma Norman. She was their treasured only child. Barbara grew up surrounded by the love of her family. She graduated from Landon High School and matriculated at Florida State University in Tallahassee, where she graduated summa cum laude. Barbara was elected to the FSU Hall of Fame in 1963. Tom loves to tell the story of the first time he saw Barbara as she came aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga to attend a dance with young midshipmen. Tom saw the beautiful young woman and hastily made his way through the line so he was the one to take her hand, helping her step off the gangplank. The Times Union was on hand to cover the event, and a photographer snapped that moment when he fell in love with the woman he knew he would marry. On June 22, 1963, Barbara married the love of her life, Thomas F. Hall at Swaim Memorial United Methodist Church, and they walked under the arch of crossed swords into their “happily ever after”. Barbara then joined Tom in Pensacola as he finished flight school.

Her beloved Tom’s Navy career took them around the world. Wherever Tom served our country, Barbara served with him. She was the consummated helpmate whether it was working with the enlisted men’s wives in Iceland or serving as the hostess for the U.S. base in Bermuda, where she deftly managed the protocol necessary for visiting Presidents, members of Congress, and other dignitaries. While in Bermuda, Tom and Barbara were the guests of Queen Elizabeth II on her royal yacht, Britannia, and also enjoyed a stay at St. James Court in London.

Barbara would climb on an airplane wing to console a mechanic whose brother was sick or visit military families whose loved ones were deployed. She was gracious and kind in all things. One of Barbara’s most cherished roles besides daughter and wife was mother to their beloved son, Thomas David. As Tom’s naval career ascended, the family lived in Brunswick, Maine. They also served in New Port, Rhode Island while Tom was at the War College. Then when Tom earned flag officer, the family moved to Washington D.C.  Barbara enjoyed when her family came to visit their different posts and was the best tour guide, educating all who enjoyed her thoughtful hospitality.

When Admiral Hall retired, they moved to Jacksonville to her childhood home, where they enjoyed traveling to see old friends and spending holidays with her family. Barbara Hall was a woman who walked by faith through the trials in her life, whether it was losing her parents or her precious son. She shared her testimony with the many lives she touched; she will be greatly missed.

Barbara Norman Hall was preceded in death by her parents and son. She is survived by her much-loved husband, Tom, as well as extended family in the Jacksonville area.

Her celebration of life will be Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 11:00 am in the Evergreen Cemetery Chapel, 4535 Main Street, Jacksonville, FL. 32206. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Arrangements and care are under the direction of Evergreen Funeral Home.

Very sorry to learn of Barbara’s passing. Barbara and Admiral Hall have always been an example of the kind of marriage Maureen and I hope to have. Always kind, caring, and dedicated to each other and their family. They were a great example of how to live their lives in both personal and professional levels. We were blessed to know her and have no doubt she is at peace along side of Tom Jr. Will be praying for Admiral Hall as he adjusts to a life without her until at some point in the future they will all be joined with our Lord in heaven. May God bless Admiral Hall and all who loved Barbara. May they find strength in the knowledge that the Hall family be one day reunited in heaven.
