Betty Jo Waters, 85, of Jacksonville, passed away Friday, January 2nd, 2026
Born in Macon, Georgia, Betty Jo spent most of her life in Jacksonville, Florida where she built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering care for those around her. Known simply and lovingly as “Granny,” she was best known for taking care of everyone else. Her heart for family knew no limits.
Granny proudly raised her two children, Glen Waters and Cindy Ankerich, but her role as a caregiver extended far beyond that. She also raised her grandchildren Stephen Ankerich and Angela Ankerich, as well as her niece Michelle Crews, loving each of them as her own. To be under Granny’s care meant you were never without, whether it was food, support, advice, or fierce protection.
A strong and fiercely independent woman, Betty owned and operated her own business for over 40 years, a testament to her determination and work ethic. In more recent years, she found deep friendship and fellowship at San Jose Baptist Church, which brought her great joy and comfort.
Granny had a gift for making people laugh with her unforgettable comments and quick wit. She was generous to her core and made sure no one around her went without. Her strength, humor, and unconditional love will be remembered by all who knew her.
Betty was preceded in death by both her children; Glenn Waters and Cynthia Ankerich. Betty leaves behind her niece Michelle Crews and grandchildren; Stephen Ankerich and Angela Ankerich as well as her great grandchildren; Ella Jo Ankerich and Parker Ankerich. She leaves behind a family forever shaped by her sacrifices, her laughter, and her boundless love. Granny’s legacy lives on in the lives she nurtured and the example she set; of resilience, kindness, and loving fiercely.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 16th at 11:00 am at San Jose Baptist Church- 6140 San Jose Blvd. 32217. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Evergreen Funeral Home – (904) 353-3649
