Cheryl Darlene DeLoach, lovingly known as Darlene, passed away on March 2, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on January 14, 1947, to John Daniel Vining and Virginia Wylene Vining, she was raised on the west side of Jacksonville, Florida — a place that shaped her strong spirit.
Darlene devoted her life to her family. She was married to the love of her life, David Ronald “Ronnie” DeLoach, for over 40 years. Ronnie was her steady anchor, her greatest companion, and her favorite person. Together they built a life centered around love, laughter, and time on the water.
A devoted homemaker, Darlene poured her heart into her home and into the people she loved most. She was a loving mother to Scott Washington (Lesley) and Erica Grek. She was a proud grandmother to Zachary (Ashley), Cole (Beth), Ramie (Austin), and Reid. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Palmer. Although dementia limited the time she was able to know her youngest generations, they were forever part of her story and the family she helped create.
Her family was everything to her. She loved in big, unmistakable ways. She was unapologetically herself, strong-willed, loyal, and fiercely protective of the people she called hers. There was never any doubt where her heart stood.
She had a love for antique shopping and beautiful jewelry, treasures that reflected her appreciation for things with history and meaning. She adored her cat, Silka, and found her greatest peace on the water. More than once, a simple weekend trip anchored at Fort George Island with Ronnie turned into a week-long stay because she loved being there so much, with grandchildren popping in and out to visit and share time on the boat. Whether fishing beside him or simply feeling the salt breeze on her face, she was most at home near the sea.
She will be remembered for her bold spirit, her devotion to Ronnie, and the fierce love she gave to every generation of her family. Her legacy lives on in the family she built and the memories that will continue to be shared for years to come.
Graveside services will be held at noon on Thursday, March 12th at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 Main Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32206. Â Rev. Timothy McDaniel will preside. Â Arrangements are under the direction and care of Evergreen Funeral Home – (904) 353-3649.
