It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Connie Keyes. known affectionately to family and friends as China Doll. Born on August 14, 1951, she gracefully departed from this world, on November 28, 2025,leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to resonate with all who knew her.
China Doll was the cherished daughter of Earl and Gladys Keyes and one of eight sisters who shared countless memories and a bond that will endure forever. She dedicated her life to her family, raising four wonderful children: Albert Keyes, Touneine Antwan Keyes, Constance Latori Keyes and Abdul Malik Keyes, who carry forward her spirit and values. Her love will live on through her seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Throughout her years, China Doll was a dedicated employee at Duval Laundry, where her work ethic and warmth made her a beloved figure among both coworkers and customers. Her ability to connect with people was truly remarkable; she could brighten anyone’s day with her infectious laughter and kind heart.
As a mother, she was a guiding light. Her unwavering encouragement and belief in her children were the foundation upon which they built their lives. She instilled in them the values of kindness and resilience and encouraged them to always strive for their best selves. Each lesson learned is a precious gift that will be cherished forever.
One of her child’s favorite memories reflects her playful spirit: on the first day of school, she surprised him with football cleats, transforming an ordinary day into one filled with laughter and clanking joy. Such moments were the essence of her character—turning everyday life into something extraordinary through her love and warmth.
Her only daughter fondly remembers, “Mama was not just a mother; she was a light in our lives. She had a knack for making us laugh, often weaving humor into everyday moments. If the words wouldn’t come to her, the music she played would express all her feelings—raw and soulful music that touched our hearts.”
Cooking was another passion of hers. “Oh my gosh, she didn’t just put her feet in it; she poured her love into every meal! Her dishes had a way of making you come back for seconds—always made with love that you could taste.”
China Doll taught us to embrace each moment and love fiercely. Her zest for life inspired everyone around her, encouraging us to support one another just as she did. Though she may no longer be with us physically, her spirit will remain a guiding force in our lives.
As we gather to celebrate her life, let us honor China Doll by carrying forth her legacy of kindness, compassion, and joy. Your presence here today reflects the immense love she shared, and together, we pledge to keep her memory alive—through our actions, our support for one another, and the warmth she instilled in each of our hearts.
Thank you for being here to celebrate the remarkable life of our dear China Doll. She will forever be missed, but forever remembered. Rest in peace, dear mother. Your love will echo through the lives you’ve touched for generations to come
