Dollie Ann Canady, 76, of Glen St. Mary, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home after a long illness, surrounded by the love of her family. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing she is now reunited in Heaven with the love of her life.
Dollie was born in Jacksonville, Florida, to George A. Davis and Virginia Davis. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, James Canady; her parents; her brothers, Bary, Paul “Bike,” and Eddie Davis; and her nephew, Allan Davis.
Dollie was a woman of strong faith who loved Jesus deeply and carried that faith with her throughout her life. She believed in loving people well, speaking her mind, and standing firm in what she believed. Those who knew her best knew she was a true spitfire—bold, honest, and full of heart.
For decades, Dollie was in the pawn shop business and was the proud owner of Dollie’s Pawn Emporium, where she became a familiar and beloved face in the community. She built friendships with countless people who walked through her doors and truly never met a stranger.
She shared a beautiful life and great adventures with her husband, James. Together they traveled to all 50 states, visiting any casino they could find and enjoying frequent trips to Disney, making memories and seeing the country side by side during their 57 years of marriage. Their love was steady, loyal, and enduring.
Dollie found joy in the simple things that made life sweet. She loved a good yard sale or thrift store, always on the hunt for a treasure. She enjoyed watching her favorite murder mystery shows, and Christmas was her absolute favorite time of year. Over the years she collected dishes, hats, napkins, tablecloths, and bags—each one a small piece of the life she loved.
But more than anything, Dollie loved her family. Cooking was her love language, and she was best known for her cheese potatoes. Feeding the people she loved brought her great joy. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, conversation, and full plates.
She is survived by her two sons, William Canady (Raquel) and Michael Canady, and her three beloved grandchildren, Katlin Ann (Gabriel) Morgan, Kimberly Canady, and Kelsey Canady, who were the pride and joy of her life, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends whose lives were blessed by knowing her.
She is also lovingly remembered by her lifelong friend Jackie Hurley and family, and her cousin Cliff Coates, whose friendship remained constant throughout the years.
Dollie will be remembered for her strength, her honesty, her faith, and the fierce love she had for her family. She was the kind of woman who left an impression on everyone she met.
Though we will miss her deeply, we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her husband James and resting in the arms of Jesus, healed and at peace.
Her love, her stories, her laughter, and the meals she made with love will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
Many will also remember her favorite sayings:
“You better sell something!” and “Keep the faith, baby.”
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7
A service will be held Friday, March 20, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Evergreen Funeral Home Chapel, 4535 Main Street, Jacksonville, FL. 32206. The visitation will begin at 1:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Evergreen Funeral home- (904) 353-3694
