Don Grey Sherrill, 87, devoted husband and father, went to be with his Lord August 10, 2017. He was born January 22, 1930, in Mooresville, North Carolina and moved with his wife, Natalyn, to Jacksonville, Florida in 2016 to be closer to their daughters.
Don proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, as well as the United Nations Service Medal for valor. Don retired after 32 years from Burlington Textile Industries in 1985 as a supervisor of weaving. A man of faith, Don served as a Deacon at Fieldstone Presbyterian Church, and was a longtime member of Vanderburg United Methodist Church.
Don reflected Christs love for others, and people were drawn to his kind and gentle spirit. He enjoyed family weekends on Lake Norman, traveling the United States with lifelong high school friends, visiting Amish friends in Ohio, cutting the rug on the shag dance floor, and making memories as a wonderful Papa with each of his grandchildren.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Taylor and Fannie Brawley Sherrill, brother Horace (Pete) Bell Sherrill, and sister Margaret Sherrill Allison. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Natalyn Archer Sherrill; daughters Donna Sherrill Watts (Jim) of Jacksonville, Florida and Minnette Sherrill Suddarth (Pete) of Valdosta, Georgia; six grandchildren Whitney Watts, Erin Watts, Christian Watts, John Suddarth (Caitlin), Tyler Suddarth, Aubrey Suddarth Sweeney (Donald); sister Frances Sherrill Moore.
