Dorothy Dean Mitchell, 88, died Saturday May 21st, 2016 in Greensboro, NC.
The funeral service will be held Saturday May 28th, at 1 pm, The Evergreen Cemetery Association, 4535 Main St., Jacksonville, Florida
Dorothy was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. She graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in chemistry, where she met and later married her sweetheart, John Lewis Mitchell, MD. The Mitchells settled in Jacksonville, Florida where John practiced medicine and they raised their 2 children. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Active in her community, she volunteered with the Duval County Medical Society Auxiliary and the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens as well as other volunteer activities.
Dorothy was a gifted seamstress and loved making many of her own clothes. She also enjoyed time spent at the beach and traveling the world as well as spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Dr. John L. Mitchell and by her parents, Morgan Andrew Dean and Marjorie Thaxton Dean. She is survived by her children: Catherine Weeks (Kris) and Dr. Dean Mitchell (Christie); 5 grandchildren: Captain Collin Weeks (Clare), Ashlynn Weeks, Lauren Weeks, Adam Mitchell (Allison) and Matt Mitchell (Joanna); 2 great-grandchildren: Ellie Weeks and Abby Weeks.
