Dr. Laura Mae “Hollywood” Wiley

Dr. Laura Mae “Hollywood” Wiley

Dr. Laura Mae “Hollywood” Wiley, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Friday, November 17th, 2023.  She was 67 years old. Laura was born on September 11, 1956, in Hallandale, Florida to Bennie and Marguerite Tolbert.

Growing up in South Florida, Dr. Wiley spent a lot of time with her twin sister Walta Mae singing in various churches and talent shows in the area. Both Dr. Wiley and Walta Mae were gifted singers and used their gifts to serve the Lord.

Dr. Wiley relocated to Jacksonville, Florida to pursue her collegiate education at Edward Waters College where she was awarded a choral scholarship. She was a pillar in her community. Socially she was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority Incorporated. As a former educator she dedicated her life to serving others as teacher in the Duval County School System; however, her life’s purpose was to spread the word of God. She was a theologian who dedicated her life to Jesus. As a minister and songstress, Dr. Wiley would often participate in religious events and ecumenical worship in the city of Jacksonville, and beyond. While her message of salvation spread far and wide, she took great pride in being a devoted member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Under the guidance of Pastors Jack and Annette Harmon, Dr. Wiley was able to further learn and grow on her Christian journey.

Dr. Wiley departed this life after years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Marguerite Tolbert, her twin sister Walta Mae Tolbert, and two brothers, Willie Tolbert and Nathaniel Tolbert.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Joshua H. Wiley, daughters Jakeya N. Wiley and Jacobi M. Anderson; brother, Benny L. Tolbert, niece Alicia V. Ferguson, nephews Nathaniel Tolbert, Jr, Jabar Tolbert, Leviticus A. Bennett; grandchildren, Michael J. Walker Jr, Lauren S. Franklin and Heaven L. Roberts and a host of cousins, family, colleagues, and friends.

A celebration of Laura’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 2, 2023, at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church; 2538 Firestone Rd, Jacksonville, Florida 32210.  Pastors Jack and Annette Harmon will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of Evergreen Funeral Home, 4535 Main Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32206 – (904) 353-3649.
