Edgar Rodger Scheaffer, age 96, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and quiet strength. Edgar, aka Sonny, proudly served his country in the United States Army, an experience that shaped his lifelong sense of duty and commitment. Following his military service, he worked at the paper mill in Jacksonville, where he dedicated many years before retiring, earning the respect of colleagues through his strong work ethic and reliability.

He was a devoted husband to Geraldine Scheaffer, with whom he shared many years of marriage and with whom he remained close to until his last day. Sonny was a loving father to his three children: Susan Diane Scheaffer, Walter Jon (Susan) Scheaffer, and Steven Roger Scheaffer. He was a quiet man but one of his greatest joys was his family. This family consisted of his four grandchildren: Adrian Bowers, Angela (Adrian) Jarrett, Steven Scheaffer, and Conner Scheaffer, four great grandchildren: Shawn (Sara) Cothran, Ciara Tillman, Emma Jarrett, and Abigail Jarrett, one great-great grandchild, Summer Cothran, two nieces, Marianne and MaryJane, and countless friends who were like family to him, all of whom will carry forward his memory and values. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Susan Scheaffer, his sisters Judy and Pauline, his children, Susan and Steven, and his niece MaryJane.

Sonny will be remembered for his steadfast character, his service to his country, and his deep love for his family and friends. His life was one of quiet impact, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

His celebration of life will be on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 11:00 am in the Evergreen Cemetery Chapel, 4535 Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Arrangements and care under the direction of Evergreen Funeral Home (904) 353-3649
