Eva M. Griffin (“Bettye” to her family and friends) was born on October 29, 1918, in New York City. She grew up in Yonkers, New York, and attended Yonkers schools. She was employed by the Yonkers Board of Education for 12 years until her retirement in 1975, at which time she and her husband relocated to Florida, where they enjoyed long and happy sunset years. Mrs. Griffin enjoyed living in Florida, learning to drive at age 58 and working out at the local “Y” three times a week until she was 95 years old.
Mrs. Griffin departed this life on January 22, 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 102. She was predeceased by her husband, James G. Griffin; and sons, Gordon and Peter. She is survived by three children: Gary Griffin, Beverly Love, and Bettye-Lynn Underwood; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
