Howard Wayne Parrish

Howard Wayne Parrish

Howard Wayne Parrish, after 82 years of pickin’ and grinnin’ his way through life, passed away on June 8, 2023, in the loving presence of family, music, and the exceptional care of Community Hospice. Wayne, Wayner, Daddy, Pappy, Popsy, Santa, Ladies Man, The Man, The Myth, The Legend…however you knew him, will be desperately missed.

Wayne was preceded in passing by his beautiful wife Debbie. He is survived by his daughters Loni Rogers (Shaun), and Tammy Parrish; grandchildren, Alex Johnston, Lia Rogers and Connor Rogers; great-grandchildren, Mark Johnston and Amina Johnston, and a beautiful blend of extended family of bonus sons, daughters, and grandchildren created on his journey through life.

Wayne had been retired from JEA since 1998, and there wasn’t a job the man couldn’t do. He fiercely loved his dogs Sparky and Copper, chicken and dumplings, and his family… pretty much in that order. He lived simply and found happiness in other’s happiness. If you were one of the lucky ones, you got to witness him in his signature outfit…holy underwear and crocs. Our loss is big and painful, but he wouldn’t want us to make it a solemn affair. He would want you to raise a glass, enjoy the memories, and never forget to live every moment to the fullest.

Please honor this great man by sharing a story with us. We would also appreciate donations in his honor to be made to Community Hospice at their locations in Fernandina Beach, Jacksonville, or online. They are truly amazing. Wayne treasured his time playing music with friends each week. Donations to keep the music and fellowship going can be sent to Dinsmore Historical Museum, 7330 Civic Club Dr., Jacksonville FL 32219. Let them know it’s for keeping the music alive.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 14th at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 Main Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32206.  A brief visitation will begin at 10:30 am in the Evergreen Funeral Home Chapel, located at the base of the bell tower on the Evergreen Cemetery grounds. Evergreen Funeral Home is honored to be in service to the Parrish family – (904) 353-3649.
