James Steven Waldron (Jim) sadly passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024. Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anne Havens Waldron, their son John (Lindsay), their granddaughter Audrey, and his brother David (Pam).
Jim was born to Horace and Nelle (Laughlin) Waldron in Savannah, GA on September 28, 1942. The family moved to Decatur, GA and Jim played football and graduated from Avondale High School in 1959. He graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry from Davidson College in Charlotte, NC in 1964. While working as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent Office in Washington, D.C., he attended and graduated, in 1970, from American College of Law in Washington, D.C. He was admitted to the Maryland State Bar Association in December of 1970, and later to the District of Columbia and Virginia State Bar associations. Jim practiced intellectual property (patent) law in Washington D.C. until he and Anne moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1995.
Jim was passionate about sailing and sailboats. He and Anne owned several boats throughout their many years together; their son, JC was born while they were living in Annapolis, MD harbor on their 72-foot retired racing yacht, “Kialoa II”. They participated in many amateur sailboat races on the Chesapeake Bay and offshore.
Jim was also passionate about woodworking and had a well-equipped garage workshop, where he taught himself to build hand tools. He and Anne built an 11-foot nesting dinghy in their garage.
Jim was beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was passionate about his granddaughter, Audrey; they spent many happy times together reading and playing on the computer.
A memorial service in Jim’s honor will held at 11:00 AM on October 30, 2024, with a 10:30 am gathering prior to the, in the chapel at Evergreen Cemetery, Funeral Home and Crematory, 4535 N. Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206. (904) 353-3649.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Community Hospice of N.E. Florida, or the charity of one’s choice.
