JOHN WESLEY ALLEN
May 14, 1922 – May 9, 2015
J.W (“Boiler Bill”) served in the Army Pacific Theater during WWII where he earned 5 Bronze Stars and 2 Invasion Arrowheads. After the war, he returned to Jacksonville, FL and joined his father in a wholesale boiler business, which became Allen Wholesale Supply that has been a successful business for over 60 years. Upon retirement, he was fond of humorously saying, “They pay me not to show up.”
He served as a member in his church and service organizations in the Jacksonville area including the Northside (Past President) and Beaches Businessmen’s Club. He was active in Calvary Temple Assembly of God for over 50 years and enjoyed sending “Little Bibles” in native languages across 4 continents.
He was a member of The Mayflower Society as a descendent of three passengers on the Mayflower, the Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of the Confederacy.
J.W. was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Frances Alida Hadler. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Robertson Allen, brother and sister-in-law Charles and Elizabeth Allen, sister Barbara Allen, son and daughter-in-law Ron and Bonnie (Smith) Allen, daughter and son-in-law Carol and Rick Medeiros, daughter, Nancy Allen, four step-sons, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Military graveside services will take place on Thursday, May 14 (his 93rd birthday) at 10:00 am, Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 North Main Street, Jacksonville, FL.
