Our mom, Linda Sue Walker Gearhart Adkison was born on Sunday, December 22, 1946, to Bernard & Thelma Lucille Walker in Princeton, West Virginia. She was the youngest of seven children.

In 1968 Linda moved from Princeton, West Virginia to Jacksonville, Florida with her then husband, the late Arnold Dale Gearhart.

Never afraid of hard work, and at times the sole provider for her children, Linda worked numerous jobs in the service industry. She often spoke of her guests never wanting for anything especially while supervising special events and occasions. From 1988 – 2013, Linda worked for Smalley Transportation/Saia Motor Freight.

On Wednesday, November 25, 2015, Linda joined the angels of Heaven. Over the past two years, Linda faced a number of medical issues. Overcoming lung cancer earlier this year, Linda’s energies became focused on the physical therapy required to ensure her successful transition into new mobility, after the recent amputation of part of her right leg.

Linda’s dedication to her recovery was continually renewed during times when family, friends, and staff overseeing her care would share how Linda had in some way inspired them.

Welcoming Linda through the pearly gates are all five of her brothers; Fred, Oakley Delone, George Thomas, Darrell, & Leonard, along with her own Mom & Dad. Delcie Dishman Carter is Linda’s surviving sister, with whom Linda would annually joke about sharing the same age for thirty days each year. Also anticipating Linda’s arrival with the most unrivaled excitement is Tammy Rene Adkison, Linda’s four-year-old daughter and Linda’s late husband Paul Adkison, Sr.

Linda is survived by her children; Linda Gail Smith, Kyle Dale Gearhart, & Randall Delone Adkison; her step-children, Paul Adkison Jr., Deryle Adkison, and Cheryil Bouchard, as well as frequent caregiver and niece, Sonya Speed. Linda’s grandchildren include Morgan Ryan Anderson Smith, Cecilia Grace Adkison, & Chase LaPointe (Adkison), with a fourth grandchild expected in May. Linda also leaves many nieces and nephews. All of which she is smiling upon each day from her heavenly view.

Funeral Service will be 11:00AM Thursday December 3, 2015 at Evergreen Chapel. Interment service will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
