Marietta Henry Ballis (Marcy Ballis), 87, of Atlantic Beach
Marietta Henry Ballis, affectionately known as Marcy, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving husband and son. Born on June 5, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Marcy lived a full and vibrant life.
She attended Philadelphia Friends Central School and graduated from Mount Holyoke College, earning degrees in French and Theatre Arts. Marcy’s professional career reflected her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. As the CFO of The Entertainer stores located in Jacksonville Beach, Orange Park, Atlantic Beach, and Atlanta, she curated a unique shopping experience, specializing in home décor and gourmet foods. Her passion for the culinary arts led her to teach gourmet cooking classes at the stores, where she delighted in sharing her love for food and entertaining.
Marcy also created lasting memories as the host for many friends and family at the Red Bank Schoolhouse, a (135 year old schoolhouse) retreat she restored in the scenic Great Smoky Mountains.
She shared her love for the performing arts with her husband, George, through their involvement with the Alhambra Dinner Theater and Players by the Sea Theater. Beyond her professional and artistic endeavors, Marcy was a deeply committed member of St. John the Divine Church, serving on the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society with grace and dedication. She found peace and inspiration in her garden, where she spent countless hours nurturing life and beauty. Among the many things she did for the church throughout the years, Marcy also sang in the church choir.
Marcy is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, George Ballis, 97, and their cherished son, Kosmas Ballis.
She was predeceased by her sister, Maryanne Harned Meeder. Marcy was a wonderful and caring aunt to her nieces: Lynn Gelinas (Peter), Virginia Cawood (Richard), Jill Dull (Eric), and Laurie Stinger, all of whom carry her memory in their hearts.
There will be a funeral service at 10:30am at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, located at: 12760 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32246. Immediately after the service, there will be a motorcade leading to Evergreen Cemetery located at: 4535 Main St, Jacksonville, FL 32206.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be sent to St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, reflecting Marcy’s generous and compassionate spirit.

Marcy was my employer at The Entertainer for several years. She was wonderful, so giving of her time and talents. I’m so sad for this news. My best to George and Koz. I wish the family peace and love.
