Marjorie Lucille Batey Becker, 94, passed away peacefully November 27, 2017. She was the widow of Rear Admiral Charles Becker, USN. Marjorie was a native of Jacksonville, graduated from Robert E. Lee high School and Florida State College for Women where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority.

In her adult life, she was an active volunteer in the many places she called home as a Navy wife across the USA and the Orient. She received commendations for her many volunteer hours with the American Red Cross, Navy Relief Society, St Luke’s Auxiliary, and the US Naval Academy Chapel. She was a wedding hostess there for many years and a member of the Chapel Council going in the first year that women were invited to serve in that position. Marjorie was a tour guide and active member of Historic Annapolis as well as a volunteer at the naval Academy gift shop while residing in Maryland. She was a lifetime member of the Naval Academy Club in Annapolis.

Marjorie enjoyed her membership ion the Harvard Dames in Boston as well as the Cummer Museum of Art, Palms Presbyterian Church, Sawgrass Chapel, and Sawgrass Country Club in the Jacksonville area. Finding volunteerism a very rewarding career, she also enjoyed her time spent with Beaches Habitat, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Military Officers’ Association of America.

She is survived by sons Robert McGill Becker (Edna), Bryan Scott Becker (Rebecca), daughter Melissa Ellen Halliburton (David), five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Palms Presbyterian, December 13 at 11:00 am. Memorial gifts may be made to the Childrens’ Home Society of Florida or a charity of choice.
