Melvin Thomas Gay

Melvin Thomas Gay of Jacksonville, FL passed away on December 16, 2022, at the age of 85 years. Melvin was born in Valdosta, GA on August 3, 1937.
Melvin’s family moved to Jacksonville when he was a young child. He graduated from Jackson High School and worked for Pantry Pride Grocery and then Baptist Hospital until he retired after 25 years of service. Melvin was a member of Southside Christian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder and Chairman of the Board. Melvin and his wife, Charlene, loved dancing and were members of the Country Klick Dance Team. He also enjoyed fishing with his parents and wife and hunting with his brothers.
He will be remembered and missed by his loving wife, Charlene Cameron Gay of 41 years, his step sons John and Shannon (Marsha) Freeman, grandchildren: Karsyn and Kendall; his brothers, Alvin, Gene (Barbara), Raymond (Shirlyn); as well as numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Newton and Sarah Gay, his son Malcom, daughter Lenia, brothers Jimmy and Russell.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Almost Home Beaches and Hospice for providing Melvin with care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Southside Christian Church, 6755 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32211.
There will be a funeral service held on December 21st, at Evergreen Cemetery, Funeral Home, 4535 N Main St, Jacksonville, FL 32206. Visitation with the family will be held at 10:30 AM. Followed by Grave Side Service at 11:00 AM.
Officiating: Rev. Gary Luallin Pallbearers: Walter Barrett, Will Dean, Brad Glass, Floyd Houser, Mark Owens, and Ken Southerland.
