Michael Wayne Leonard
Mike left us early on the morning of Monday, November 17, 2025 after a long struggle with dementia.
Michael Wayne Leonard was born in Jacksonville, Florida on the 5th of January, 1948 to Marie Helen (Holt) Leonard and William James Leonard. He was married to his wife, Debra Kay Leonard, in Jacksonville on October 24th, 1986. Mike is survived by his wife and his son, James Taylor, both of Jacksonville, and is predeceased by his brother, Richard Leonard, and his son, Michael Leonard Jr. Mike’s niece and nephews, Richard’s children, April, Scott, and Rick also survive him.
Mike grew up in Jacksonville an avid fan of sports and automobiles. He attended Jacksonville University where he also played college basketball. Mike was gentle and affable, and always quick to joke, flirt, or smile. He was only ever out-gabbed by his late brother, Richard. These qualities stood out as his finest during a long career in the automotive industry doing leasing and finance.
He suffered with dementia for well over a decade, a disease that never diminished his convivial nature. His struggle is, blessedly, at an end.
A grave-side service will take place at Evergreen Cemetery at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 6th, 2025. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Evergreen Funeral Home – (904) 353-3649.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Wolfson Children’s Hospital or Community Hospice of Jacksonville.

We will miss Mike very much. He was always fun to be with.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
So sad to hear about Mike’s passing. Can’t believe how much he looks like his dad, Uncle Bill. Love the head shot with the great smile. Smiling is how I remember Mike from our Leonard family re-unions. Always so kind to us younger kids, although now realizing that I am only five years younger, we now seem to be much closer in age. May God bless him and keep him. My thoughts and prayers go out to Debbie and family.
Mike was a precious and gentle so. I loved every minute I ever spent with him. I love you Deb, hugs and love.
