On Monday, January 17, 2022, Mun Kwong Quan, devoted husband, father of two and beloved Gung Gung (grandfather) of three, peacefully passed away at the age of 86.
Kwong was born in China in 1936. He immigrated to the US in 1958 and worked on the family farm in Jacksonville, Florida. He honorably served in the United States Army (stationed in Germany) and then married So Ping AuYoung in 1961. They raised two daughters, Judy and Juanita, while Kwong worked in the picture frame industry his entire career. He was diligent and worked hard earning his GED, attended Florida Junior College in the evenings obtaining his AA degree, and then successfully started and ran his own wholesale business, Quan Imports, until retirement. Upon retirement, Kwong remained an active member of the community, and close friends would often come to him for advice on business matters. He also enjoyed travel, visiting friends and family in faraway places.
An interest in photography while in the Army developed into a lifetime hobby of taking photos and videos. Kwong will always be remembered as having a kind servant’s heart and a keen engineer’s mind. He could make furniture, learn how to use a computer in the early days, and fix anything!
Kwong helped and served so many in our family and community. He was always willing to assist a friend in need. He was a doting and beloved Gung Gung to his three grandchildren. He loved fishing, thrift shopping, learning how things worked, and taking his grandkids out to new experiences.
Kwong is survived by his wife, So, daughters, Judy and Juanita, and three grandchildren, Joshua, Faith, and Calvin.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 25, at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 Main St., Jacksonville, FL 32206. A viewing at 1 pm followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m.
