Our angel here on Earth, Nan Elizabeth Brooks, 78, went home to be with our Lord and Savior in Heaven on Thursday April 30th. She was at home in Jacksonville, Florida surrounded by her family.
Nan was born on February 24th, 1948, in Asheville, NC to parents Walter Raymond Sprouse and Helen Elizabeth Griffin (Sprouse). She attended North Buncombe High School in Weaverville, NC. After high school she moved to Jacksonville, Fla with her family where she met her husband to be, Randal Clifford Brooks in 1967. They were married on April 29th, 1968, and had two sons, Randy and David.
Nan worked for Pic ‘N’ Save as a retail merchandise manager for 17 years before medically
retiring due to Retinitis Pigmentosa (a rare genetic eye disorder). Nan was an avid, dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served in various areas of the church but predominantly in the nursery caring for infant and toddler children.
In her spare time Nan loved to plant flowers and work in her flower gardens where she grew beautiful plants and flowers of all types and beautified the landscape around her home year-round. She thoroughly enjoyed crafting and made a variety of lovely, useful items for her home both inside and out. She was an amazing cook and made it a regular occurrence to have family and friends over for an abundant meal and every holiday celebration.
Nan was best known for her unwavering faith in God and her unconditional love for family and friends alike. A completely selfless giver who never asked for anything in return. She had such an infectious spirit and was gifted with the sweetest soul and the purest of hearts
that would define who she would be for the entirety of her life. To have known her for just a moment was to love her forever. Never one to pass judgement, she believed everyone deserved a chance and always found the light in the darkest of days. She didn’t just speak of being more like Jesus Christ, she lived her life as a shining example.
Surviving family members are her husband Randal of 57 years, her oldest son Randy, her youngest son David, her grandson Davin, sisters Patricia Fano, Mary Gomez, Ivy Canlas, as well as her brothers, Joe Sprouse (wife Shirley), Daniel Sprouse and Stephen Sprouse.
She is preceded in death by her father Walter Raymond Sprouse, her mother Helen Elizabeth Sprouse, her brothers Edwin Sprouse and Walter “Ray’ Sprouse.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, May 7, 2026 held at Evergreen Cemetery & Funeral Home located at 4535 North Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206. Viewing/Visitation will be at 1 PM and the funeral service will commence at 2 PM.
