Nancy Lanham Ashmead

A longtime resident of Jacksonville, FL, Nancy Lanham Ashmead, widow of Retired Colonel Forrest G. Ashmead, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021, at the age of 85.

In addition to her husband of 28 years, she was predeceased by her father, Noel Lanham, Sr., mother, Idella Lanham, brother, Noel Lanham, Jr., and sister, June Holmes.  She is survived by her son, Rhett N. Talley (Caroline) of Ormeau Hills, Australia; her grandchildren in Australia Nicholas Talley and Anastasia Talley-Steel (Matthew); a niece, Lisa Nolan(Sean), and great nephew, Jason Nolan of Petaluma, California; and her step-children Helen S. Ashmead, Virginia A. McClendon (Bunker), Marian A. Wagner, and John W. Ashmead (Gemma).

Born in Jacksonville on September 20, 1935, Nancy graduated from Andrew Jackson High School (class of 1953) where she was feature editor of the school newspaper, and she also attended Florida Community College at Jacksonville.

Nancy enjoyed working with other people especially young children.  For a number of years, she taught kindergarten, Sunday School and vacation Bible school courses and participated in volunteer activities for the Kidney Foundation, March of Dimes, Cub Scouts, and Pop Warner football teams.  She also enjoyed singing in her church choir.

Graveside services for the family will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to a charitable organization of choice.
