Rain Richard Medeiros, Rick to his many friends and family, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018, due to complications associated with diabetes. He was born April 2, 1952, in St. Augustine, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol Allen Medeiros and his son, Andrew Medeiros as well as his mother Alice Jean Smartt of Cleveland, TN. He is also survived by his sister, Ernie Cassandra Graham (Jim); and three brothers Daniel Smartt (Jenny); David Smartt (Merial); and Steven Smartt (Cheryl) as well as his aunt, Joan Rowe (Don). He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by them as well as his many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Medeiros, and his stepfather Walter E. Smartt.
Rick grew up in Jacksonville and graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1970. He and Carol married on August 14, 1971 and moved to Lakeland, Fl where Rick pursued a Bachelors degree in Secondary Ed and English at Southeastern University. He went on to be ordained as a minister in the Assemblies of God and pastored churches in Florida and Massachusetts.
Rick had many hobbies and interests. He was an avid naturalist and loved the outdoors. He loved to fish and could be found on the many lakes and waterways of Florida, always able to catch fish even if they were not biting! Rick was a master artisan and craftsman who fabricated exquisite knives that were often in high demand. He was a computer guru who could fix any computer regardless of the problem and operated a computer repair business along with selling items he made at the market. For a number of years, Rick taught English and computer technology in the public and private schools in Florida and Massachusetts. He had a special place in his heart for children as evidenced by his profession and his many volunteer ministry activities. He was a puppeteer, a magician, and served as a Scout Master instilling in children moral and spiritual character.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held June 9, 2018, 10:30 a.m., at the Church of Our Savior Anglican Church at 2092 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville Beach, FL. Donations to Ron Allen Ministries (www.ronallenministry.com) are requested in lieu of flowers.
