Randall “Randy” Clark Compton

Randall “Randy” Clark Compton

Randall “Randy” Clark Compton, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. He was 63. Randy was born on December 16, 1961, in Jacksonville, Florida, the son of Ralph and Vera (Adams) Compton.

Randy lived life with a strong will and passionate spirit. The youngest of ten children, he grew up surrounded by a big, lively family that shaped his humor, resilience, and independence. He was known for his quick wit, love of classic rock, and remarkable knowledge of music and its history. Whether it was a Pink Floyd lyric, The Andy Griffith Show trivia, or an offbeat joke, Randy brought humor and color to every conversation.

After attending Andrew Jackson High School, Randy went on to serve his country in the United States Army, where he traveled and built lifelong memories. Following his service, he dedicated over 20 years to WW Gay Fire Protection, where he worked his way up to become Manager of the Fire Protection Fabrication Shop. His smart leadership, reliability, and commitment earned the respect of his colleagues and friends alike.

Randy loved great music, talk radio, and good conversation. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing in his “yard boat,” playing flag football, and the occasional street football game with his brothers during annual Thanksgiving gatherings. He could make anyone laugh with his dry humor and always had a song or bit of trivia ready to share. He was an encyclopedia of knowledge and fun facts. A devoted Braves fan and proud patriot, he found joy in life’s simple things–watching a game, catching up with family or an old friend, or talking about the music he loved. He especially enjoyed spending time with his nephew Ronnie, often exchanging texts about sports and life’s everyday curiosities.

Randy is survived by his children Randy (Shelly) Compton Jr., Shannon (Wesley) Miller, Keri Compton, Kellie (Justin) McCullers, Angela (Brian) Hogan, Christina (Ronnie) Hagan, and Peyton Masters; as well as his grandchildren Abel, Flora, Noa, Asia, Jude, Wilder, Baleigh, Braden, Summerlyn, Kyla, Jacob and Darren, who each brought light to his life in their own way; and his former spouse, Cherie Compton. He is also survived by his siblings Bill Compton, Robin Compton, Sarah Lynn Buenaflor, Ralph (Liz) Compton, Carol (Mike) Mims, and Ricky Compton, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Valeria “Vera” Compton, and siblings Ronnie Compton, Sr., Kenny Compton, and Annette Driggers.

Randy lived life in his own way–independent, private, and strong-willed. While he wasn’t one to express emotion easily, his love for his family and those close to him was genuine and lasting. He quietly looked out for people who had fallen on hard times, often helping behind the scenes in ways few ever knew. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, extended relatives, and friends–many of whom have been part of his life for decades.

Until we see you again in Heaven – thank you, Randy. Go rest high on that mountain.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025, at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218.  Please use Cortege Lane #1 to attend this service.  Arrangements are under the direction and care of Evergreen Funeral Home, 4535 Main Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32206 – (904) 353-3649.
