ROGERS Rebecca Yerkes Rogers, a daughter of the late Julia Beville Yerkes and Jonathan Yerkes, Sr., died January 18, 2022 after a brief illness.
She was born March 8, 1930, in Jacksonville, Florida where she was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Rogers was a graduate of the Bartram Country Day School for girls in Jacksonville, a Cum Laude graduate of the Sweet Briar College in Virginia, and received her M.A. from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. While at Sweet Briar she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
She was a member of the Jacksonville Junior League and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. She was a long time member of Riverside Presbyterian Church; she was active in the life of the church and served there as church historian and archivist. She authored two books, The ‘Ximenez-Fatio House’ and ‘To The Glory of God: The Windows of Riverside Presbyterian Church.’
She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Jonathan Yerkes Rogers and Debbie Leapley Rogers, Walter Ford Rogers III and Fran Lee Rogers, Stephen Beville Rogers and Betty Stefanik Rogers; and her four grandchildren, Julia Ruth Rogers, Paige Rebecca Rogers, Robert Yerkes Rogers, Lara Frances Rogers.
She was predeceased by her husband John Harrell Rogers, her brother Jonathan Yerkes Jr., her sister Jane Yerkes Williams and her infant niece Jane Yerkes Williams.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday February 7, 2022 at Riverside Presbyterian Church, 849 Park Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32204.
In lieu of flowers a memorial may be sent to the Rebecca Yerkes Rogers Endowment Fund at Riverside Presbyterian Church, N.E. Florida Community Hospice, or a charity of choice.
