Reginald A. Henry, 72, of Jacksonville, Florida transitioned to eternal life on Saturday, August 26, 2023.
He was born on April 20, 1951 in New York, New York to Altamese and Haywood Henry. Reginald moved to Jacksonville, Florida during his high school years and attended New Stanton High School. He played on the school’s football team and graduated in 1969.
Reginald loved life, was very entertaining, and had a gregarious smile and laugh. No one was a stranger in his presence.
He attended Jones College where he graduated with a degree in broadcasting. He was a passionate and talented radio personality known as “El Ethiopian.” He was a sought-after DJ and won multiple Jack The Rapper Awards. Throughout his esteemed career, he served as a production manager, news director, music director, and talk show host. His legacy was built at several stations, including WOBS, WYLD, WXEL, WERD, WPDQ, and FOX86.
Mr. Henry was a member of The Bethel Church for over two decades, following in the footsteps of his mom, Altamese Henry, who was an active member for more than four decades.
He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories three daughters, Ophellia D. Henry, Antoinette C. Davis, and RhondaKay Williams; two sons, Reginald A. Henry Jr. and Corey Lewis; two sisters, Antoinette Williams and Jana Henry; one brother, Robert Henry; one uncle, Leroy Henry (Gloria); 12 grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; one godson, Arlen Duplessis; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and sorrowing friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Altamese and Haywood Henry and two brothers, Kenneth Henry and David Henry.
Please join us in celebrating his life on Saturday, September 9th at Evergreen Funeral Home (4535 N Main Street, Jacksonville, FL). Visitation will begin at 9:00AM, followed by the service at 10AM, and the gravesite at 11:15AM.
