Richard W. Dick Hopper
Dick Hopper of Yulee passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016 at the age of 70 years. Born June 15, 1945 in Jacksonville, FL. The son of the late James W.Jim and Martile Hopper. Mr. Hopper attended Andrew Jackson High School graduating in 1963; graduated from the University of Florida in 1967 with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. Upon graduation, he joined Rayonier in the Technical Department as a process engineer and retired with 40 years of service in 2008 as the Fernandina Mills Environmental Manager.
Dicks priorities were his God, his family, his church and his work. He attended Springhill Baptist Church where he serviced as a deacon and grace group leader. His favorite ministries were those which gave him an opportunity to disciple young people including Awana and Chrysalis. He had the opportunity to be involved with several mission trips including Dominica, Juarez and the Appalachians. The renewal movements Cursillo and Walk to Emmaus were an important part of his life including the discipline of weekly accountability grouping with Christian brothers since 1982.
He was inseparable from his wife of 29 years, Deborah Ezell Debbie Hopper. She was the love of his life and his best friend. They enjoyed traveling together particularly to see their children and grandchildren. His retirement gift was an unforgettable study tour to the Holy Land with Debbie and his son, Josh. He loved to show new things to young people especially his children and grandchildren one of the few men who actually enjoyed vacations to Disney World and Disney Cruises.
Mr. Hoppers survivors include his wife, Deborah Ezell Hopper of Yulee; sons, Jason Hopper of Denver, CO and Joshua Hopper of Yulee; daughters, Angie [John] Galloway of Louisville, CO and Laurie [Michael] Wilson of Dalton, GA; brothers, Phil Hopper of Jacksonville, FL and Jimmy Hopper of Orange Park, FL; grandsons, Max Wilson, Sam Wilson and Jake Galloway.
Private entombment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at Springhill Baptist Church at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 7. In lieu of flowers, please make any memorials to Gideons International or Springhill Baptist Church.
