Robert Mitchell League, Sr.

Robert Mitchell League, Sr.

Robert Mitchell League Sr., age 83, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, with his family by his side.

Born on November 11, 1942, in Jacksonville, Florida, Robert was the son of Frank and Barbara League. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he cherished his family above all else. He spent his life in Jacksonville, where he graduated from Paxon High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville University, and later proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

Driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Robert set his sights on owning his own business after being honorably discharged from the Navy. He worked alongside his father and brothers in the real estate business for ten years before pursuing a lifelong passion for automobiles by founding League Brothers Autos. He remained in the automobile business for more than twenty years while continuing to buy and sell real estate throughout his career. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Robert was a proud member of the Blue Herons, a social group centered around friendship, adventure, and creating lasting memories.

Robert enjoyed playing the harmonica and banjo, woodworking, collecting automobiles, and flying airplanes. He was also an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Some of his most cherished adventures were his hunting trips to Honduras. He possessed an insatiable curiosity and was always eager to learn new skills and seek new experiences. Notable was his interest in writing which led him to author a novel “Heads Up Alert”. Above all, he found his greatest joy in spending time with his family. His love and devotion to his wife and children were at the heart of everything he did.

Robert was a devoted and steadfast friend who centered his life on caring for others. He delighted in making grand gestures to show people how much they meant to him. Whether helping someone secure housing or opening a bank account for a person in need, Robert often paid the costs himself without hesitation. His generosity touched countless lives and reflected the compassion that defined him.

He was married to the love of his life, Roslynn, for 61 years. Their lifelong romance was filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to family and community. Together they shared a passion for travel, adventure, and living life to the fullest. Their three children and two grandchildren were the center of their world.

Robert tirelessly taught his children to believe they could accomplish anything and to find humor in even the most mundane daily tasks. His playful spirit was ever-present, and his children often referred to him as “Sam” in reference to his trademark habit of answering their phone calls by saying, “Sam’s Bar and Grill. This is Sam speaking.”

He is survived by his beloved wife, Roslynn League; his daughters, Heather Miller and Barbara Jane League; his son, Robert Mitchell League Jr.; his cherished grandchildren, John Henry Miller and Elijah Miller; and his brother Frank League Jr.

Though we deeply grieve the loss of our beloved “Shooting Star,” his legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the values he embodied—hard work, generosity, loyalty, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. We will forever treasure his memory.

Robert’s ashes will be interred at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 Main Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32206.  A celebration of life will be held in Robert’s memory at a later date.  Arrangements are under the direction and care of Evergreen Funeral Home.
