Ruth Ethel Bailey passed away on Sunday October 16, 2022, at the age of 89 after a long health battle.
The world has lost a strong woman who was a daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great- great grandmother, and an aunt.
Ms. Bailey was born January 29, 1933, in Manning, SC to David and Rena Scott and was the youngest of her siblings. She lived her early years in South Carolina and was affectionately called “Buddy” by her family who loves her dearly. She met and married her husband Peter John Calvy and after getting married they relocated and resided in Jacksonville, Florida.
She was employed at the old Bartram School and worked in the culinary department. She was a hard worker, very outspoken, loved to work in her garden, and enjoyed reading the word of God. Prior to her retirement, she worked in the maintenance department at ABM Janitorial Services.
Ms. Bailey accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into her life at an early age. Her favorite bible scripture is Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” (NKJV) and she praised Him until she transitioned. She was a member of Cornerstone Christian Church of Jacksonville under the leadership of her son Pastor Freddie Calvy.
Ms. Bailey was preceded in death by her parents: David and Rena Scott; her two sisters, Suzanne Scott, and Mollie Driffin, her three brothers, Lee Ernest, Robert, and David Scott Jr; and a daughter Ethel Lee Calvy. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Jenette Sweat, her children, Mary Edith Brown, Pearlease Williams (Malachi), Peter John Calvy Jr. (Teresa), Mary Ann Reaves (Todd), Shirley Austin (Elmer), Beulah Ager, Martha Spaulding, Pastor Freddie Calvy (Frances), Mark Calvy (Shirley), Gloria Calvy-Scott; 25 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 3 great- great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 9:00 am Saturday October 22, 2022 at Evergreen Chapel 4535 Main Street. Funeral Service will be 10:00am at Graveside in Evergreen Cemetery.
