Walter O. Henderson Jr., age 92, and a resident of Atlantic Beach, Florida, passed away Sunday morning, May 7, 2023.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 12:00 NOON at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church located at 523 Pablo Ave., Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
Born on July 30, 1930, in Jacksonville, Florida, Walter was the son of the late Walter O. Henderson (Slim) and Florence Whipple Henderson. To all those who knew and loved Walter, he was affectionately known as “Bobo”, an endearing term tagged on him by his sister while they were young children.
Walter was an active member of the St. Paul’s Catholic Church. Walter loved the LORD and loved his church.
Bobo was a master wood worker who left hand crafted treasures in the homes of many family members.
In addition to his wife, Lea Henderson, he is survived by his children, Trudy (Cliff) Norton of Jacksonville, FL., Robert “Bobby” (Lynn) Henderson of Atlantic Beach, FL., and Robin (Greg) Hensley of Hampshire, TN., and daughter-in-law Debbie Henderson, of Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Henderson and granddaughter, Cathy Henderson (Randy and Debbie’s daughter). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer (Quincy) Richardson, Beau (Lauren) Norton, Crissy Martinez, Julie Henderson, Ross (Rachel) Henderson, Jessica Moore, Kendall (Neyland) Roberts, Christopher Oswald, and his thirteen great grandchildren.
Walter followed in his father’s footsteps into the electrical industry where he became an icon in the Jacksonville area and served the industry for well over 50 years. Walter was a mentor, advisor, and friend to many in the electrical field. Along with his father, he was one of the founding members of the Duval County/Jacksonville Master Electrician’s Association. Like his father, he also served as a past president of the association. Walter culminated his illustrious electrical career by serving as the Chief Electrical Inspector for the City of Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
