William Cannon (Bill) Hallowes died peacefully in the presence of his beloved family on December 2, 2021. He was born on May 2, 1937 in Jacksonville, FL. He was the son of the late Mary Penelope Cannon and William Alexander Hallowes, III. He was a graduate of The Bolles School and Stetson University.
Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was trained in Quantico, VA. He was a member of the Air Marine Squadron VMA 144 at NAS Jacksonville. He was a jet aircraft captain. He was USO President and Navy League member.
Bill was Marketing Sales Manager, Xerox Corporation, Jacksonville Branch. He left Xerox to establish Modern Copy of Jacksonville.
Bill was a communicant and an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where he served as usher, lay reader, chalice administrator, Good Samaritan, and Meals on Wheels driver.
He was a member of Riverside Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an avid golfer at Timuquana Country Club where he was a Founder member.
Bill never met a stranger. He enjoyed membership in The Friars and Ye Mystic Revelers.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Harriet Ann Hewitt Hallowes and by his stepmother Elise Knight Richards Hallowes. He was predeceased by his step-sister Sarah Mercer Weed and his step-brother John Robert Mercer. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Martha Hancock Hallowes and by his children Dr. William Cannon Hallowes, Jr. (Michelle), Lynne Hallowes Thorman (Susan), and Russell Burke Hallowes (Dana). He is survived by his brother Borden Rhea Hallowes (Connie) and nephew Borden Rhea Hallowes, Jr. (Celi) and niece Suzanne Lynne Hallowes. He is survived by his step-sons Travis Hancock Fuller and Eric Britton Fuller (Kathryn). Grandchildren surviving him are Lyndsey Michelle Orr (Tim), Brittany Ann Langford (John), Brooke Elizabeth Stephens, Shelby Cannon English (Zach), William Alexander Hallowes, Christopher Michael Hallowes, Samantha Lynne Courtemanche, Sarah Brynn Thorman, Aiden Russell Hallowes, Ethan Richard Hallowes, Jacob Hancock Fuller (Emily) and Amelia Britton Fuller.
Great-grandchildren surviving him are Patrick Daniel Stephens, Paran Michelle Stephens, Hudson Gregory Langford, Brooks William Langford, Leland Michael Langford, Harper Elizabeth English, Cannon Lee English and Annabelle Collins English. Bill is survived by Martha’s sisters June Hancock Gladding, Susan Hancock Duke (Roy), JoAnn Hancock Blair, her brother Garth Stuart Hancock, Jr. (Elisa). They and their children adored Bill.
A funeral will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 4129 Oxford Avenue, 32210 on December 18 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church or to Ximenez Fatio House, 28 Cadiz, St. Augustine, FL 32084, with a note in the memo line “in memory of William Hallowes.”

Bill was a wonderful, godly friend, who was a childhood friend & we graduated Bolles together in ’55.
I left Jax in ’91 so we didn’t really stay in touch, but I’ll always remember him fondly and extend my condolences to the whole family, especially my old friend Borden. God bless ALL!
