Catherine (Cathy) C. DiPerna, age 77, passed away on January 12th, 2024, surrounded by family in Jacksonville, Florida. She was the daughter of Wilbur Ray and Helen Geisler Charleston.
She was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville graduating from Terry Parker High School in 1964 and then earning her nursing degree from Jacksonville University.
Cathy served the Jacksonville area as a nurse for over 40 years; working as Head Nurse on the Open Heart Unit at St. Luke’s Hospital and then at North Florida Cardiovascular Group.
If you knew Cathy, you knew she was an avid Elvis fan taking over her son’s childhood bedroom with all her Elvis treasures. She loved her yard with all her plants and flowers, never having too many. And, she loved crocheting making everything and anything from blankets, scarves, hats and dish towels, often sharing with everyone in her path. Cathy had the most kind and generous heart ever, never meeting a stranger that didn’t become her friend.
She is survived by her son: Sam (Julie) DiPerna; two sisters: Helen (Robert) Raesemann and Gayle (Wendall) Cooper; one brother: William Charleston (Patty Hamilton); one granddaughter, who was her biggest pride and joy; Emily Grace; and multiple nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 10am at Evergreen Cemetery, 4535 North Main Street, Jacksonville, FL.
Cathy always admired her colleagues who could care for our children. In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration for donations in Cathy’s honor to St. Jude’s Children Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Cathy was a great person and wonderful friend to so many. May you find comfort in knowing that so many are sharing your grief. I’m keeping all of her family in my prayers.
So sad to read of Cathy’s passing. Cathy was the e of the great nurses. Worked with Cathy at the old St.Lukes and in private practice. Her Mom was my first boss. Love that group of nurses from the old St Luke’s. She will forever be a part of my heart. May Angels surround the family with beautiful memories of Cathy.
